Let’s increase your WooCommerce sales with a discount for products based on quantity. Today, I will show you some tips you may use in your store including two plugins. Quantity discounts in WooCommerce are closer than you think 🙂!

In this article, I will describe the WooCommerce and plugin options regarding quantity discounts for products and product categories. Also, how to set pricing based on volume or bulk discounts.

WooCommerce quantity discount build-in options

Hint: Setting a quantity discount in WooCommerce does not require any plugin 😮.

By default, you can use 3 options to offer better product prices (and discounts in WooCommerce) after your customers reach a certain quantity or cart total.

Fixed product discount (coupon)

The first option comes with a WooCommerce discount coupon.

You may set a fixed product discount for one product or multiple products using the minimum spend value for a coupon. Also, you may define the coupon expiry date.

Additionally, it’s smart to omit products on sale so they are not discounted twice.

So, with the fixed product discount, if the order value is above $100, the coupon will give the customer -$10 for each product in the cart 😀.

As you can see, the quantity discount works for WooCommerce products with 2 separate codes. The disadvantage is that the discount for coffee was given by the high order total raised by lemons 🍋😀.

Percentage discount (coupon)

The second option is the use of a percentage discount coupon for one or more WooCommerce products 🏷️.

It works similarly to the one above but it will give a discount for a whole cart (not each product).

In my opinion, discount coupons may give a kind of quantity discount feature in WooCommerce if you have a few products, but you can lose control with more products. The total spend value counts all products in the cart 🙁.

Custom code

Finally, there is a way to set the quantity discounts in WooCommerce for one or more products with custom code based on your settings 💪.

Based on the Stockoverflow thread I prepared a simple code to add a quantity discount for WooCommerce products (added in theme's functions.php).

If the customer adds more products (3+), the discount will appear as an additional fee (-).

WooCommerce discounts based on quantity (Flexible Pricing)

If you don’t feel like writing your code or hiring a developer 😀, I encourage you to use a plugin.

Our Flexible Pricing plugin lets you set multiple dynamic discounts for WooCommerce products.

First, the quantity discounts:

For example, you can implement BOGO (Buy One Get One), BOGOHO (Buy One Get One Half Off), and custom percentage/ fixed value for additional items in the cart 🪙.

It’s even possible to set a rule to give product discounts if the customer adds product/s from different categories (for a single product or the whole category) 💪!

Moreover, you can set dynamic discounts for:

• specific product
• categories
• order total
• the total value of orders from a selected period (like month or year)
• specific roles and groups
• advanced scenarios using several parameters, and more

Quantity discounts for new units with price ranges (Flexible Quantity)

There is also one plugin to set a quantity discount per WooCommerce product with new units of measure. Yes, you’ve read it right 🙂!

It will be useful if you want to sell products on weight, length, area, and volume, or use custom units as well.

For example, sell products on weight,

area,

volume,

or also with a custom unit 📦.

So, it's possible to set the WooCommerce discounts based on quantity, volume, and for multiple items even with quantity based pricing!

What’s more important for you 😀, is that you can set quantity discount rules for each WooCommerce product with such a new unit!

The customer will get price discounts based on the WooCommerce product quantity 🎉!

WooCommerce quantity discount examples

Let's see some examples of quantity-based discounts/ pricing in WooCommerce.

1. Fixed price per item

   The Flexible Pricing plugin allows setting the fixed price discount.

   

2. Prebuilt discount templates (sales funnel)

   The Flexible Pricing plugin allows building discounts per product, order total (fixed or percentage discount in the cart), user role, or specific category.

   

   

   

   There is also a way to set a specific discount priority for multiple category discount rules.

   

   Of course, it's possible to set discount rules per all or a specific WooCommerce product/ variation for minimum and maximum quantity.

   

   The single quantity discount will be visible on-site or after adding the item to the cart depending on the discount type.

3. Volume-based pricing

   Not only you may use Flexible Pricing, but also the Flexible Quantity plugin.

   Flexible Quantity allows adding new units of measure in WooCommerce.

   

   You may also set the tiered/ bulk pricing rules.

   

   And the plugin takes into account the inventory management.

   

4. Bulk discounts

   Dynamic pricing strategies can be adjusted based on specific product/ variation or advanced category rules.

   

   

5. Dynamic pricing strategies

   They may build user loyalty especially if they are connected with discount coupon codes or email marketing (newsletter). The discount threshold should be realistic so that readers won't understand that better discounts (for specific amounts and quantities) are available on-site.

6. Landing page

   A landing page may be a solution to show BOGO (buy one get one) quantity discounts, a tier/ pricing table, coupon codes, or styling them or customizing the discount promotion message. For example, by adding discount sales badges. You may add such a sales badge with a plugin, by customizing the CSS for .product span.onsale, or with a custom code and adjusting the woocommerce_sale_flash filter.

   The badge location may also depend on a theme and single/category template files.

   A tiered quantity discount or advanced pricing structures may be achieved with Flexible Pricing rules.

7. Upsell and cross-sells

   There is a way to boost sales with additional products added to the cart per product. Such products may be discounted to effectively get some one-click upsell sales. Of course, you may test and optimize the products and custom segments upsells and cross-selling.
   

   

8. Free shipping

   WooCommerce allows free shipping based on conditions.
   

   

   As you can see, it's also possible to count the order value for the coupon threshold before applying coupon codes.

9. Bundle

   It's also possible to build a bundle with better prices and a customized product page.
